    01-WHAT CAUSES ALLERGIC CONTACT DERMATITIS

Allergic contact dermatitis occurs when a substance which you're sensitive (allergen) to triggers an immune reaction in your skin. It usually affects only the area that came into contact with the allergen. But it may be triggered by something that enters your body through foods, flavorings, medicine, or medical or dental procedures (systemic contact dermatitis).

02-ALLERGIC CONTACT DERMATITIS AFFECTS WHICH PART OF OUR BODY?

Contact dermatitis usually occurs on areas of your body that have been directly exposed to the substance — for example, along a calf or arm that brushed against poison ivy or under a watchband that triggers an allergy. The reaction usually develops within minutes to hours of exposure to an irritating substance or allergen. The rash can last two to four weeks.

03-SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF CONTACT DERMATITIS INCLUDE

    1. Red rash or bumps
    2. Itching, which may be severe
    3. Dry, cracked, scaly skin, if your condition ischronic
    4. Blisters, draining fluid and crusting, if your reaction is severe
    5. Swelling, burning or tenderness

04-THE SEVERITY OF THE RASH DEPENDS ON

    1. How long you're exposed
    2. The strength of the substance that caused the rash
    3. Environmental factors, such as temperature, airflow and sweating from wearing gloves
    4. Your genetic makeup, which can affect how you respond to certain substances

    05-WHEN TO SEE A  DOCTOR?

    1. The rash is so uncomfortable that you are losing sleep or are distracted from your daily routine
    2. The rash is painful and widespread
    3. The rash doesn't get better within a few weeks
    4. The rash affects your face or genitals

    06-SEEK MEDICAL ATTENDTION  IMMEDIATELY  WHEN

    1. You think your skin is infected — clues include fever and pus oozing from blisters.
    2. Your lungs, eyes or nasal passages are painful and inflamed, perhaps from inhaling an allergen.
    3. You think the rash has damaged the mucous lining of your mouth and digestive tract.

    07-PREVENTION & TREATMENT

Avoid contact with known allergens that you are allergic to, have good hand washing habit, avoid scratching .  If blistering develops, apply cold compress on affected areas for 30 minutes, 3 times a day. For mild conditions, calamine lotion can relieve itching while topical cream and medications like Anti-histamine will relieve the condition. If the condition is severe, seek medical attention immediately.
